Garrett County Bears? The Artistic Kind

It is no secret that Garrett County and Bears are synonymous. A drive down Rock Lodge Rd on a Monday morning when the vacationers have gone makes it very clear.

This summer however a new species of bear will be introduced to Deep Creek Lake and Garrett County. This variety is a bit more approachable and resides not in a den but at local businesses.

A total of 20 of these hand carved bears will be making their way around Garrett County & Deep Creek Lake starting Memorial Day through Autumn Glory. They will take a little leg work to see them all in the early summer. Be on the lookout for the Bear Trail Guide available memorial day weekend and on. Available at participating sponsors, The Deep Creek Lake Discovery Center and  McHenry  Visitors Center. With map in hand go spot these bears, have your map verified and be registered to win your very own hand carved bear.

If you can wait, (and I think it takes some of the fun out of it) there is one opportunity to see this whole gang together. Mark your calendars November 5, 2011 will be the great gala with all the bears and the artists who created these unique designs.

The Project is a fundraiser to support the Canopy Walkway at the Deep Creek Lake State Park. An opportunity to explore the tree top canopy from up to 80′ above the ground. To learn more about the Deep Creek Lake Canopy Project CLICK HERE
