Country Fest and Auction is held annually on the fourth Saturday of August at the Garrett County Fairgrounds in McHenry, MD from 8:00 AM until 4:30 PM.
Admissions and Parking are FREE.
If you are looking for a semi-blast from the past event Country Fest & Auction is that something to do. There will be music, food, fun and plenty of activities for the kids. Plenty of demonstrations from soap making, and chair caning to horse shoe forging and making apple cider. A helicopter candy toss and HUGE auction. PLUS quilts galore. Rain or shine it is always nice to get in the car and take a cruise around Deep Creek Lake. Next weekend there will be even more to do and see. It is time again for the Artists Studio Tours in Garrett County. Not only something fun to do, but a great chance to meet the artists and see first hand how they do what they do.
I think that locals and visitors alike will find many interesting things to do and see at the Deep Creek Lake Discovery Center. Below is a schedule of events for July 2012. One great thing about the Discovery Center on the shores of Deep Creek in the State Park is you may come by car or boat. Check out this months great events.
Looking for something different to do this weekend at Deep Creek Lake. Check out Greg Latta at the Deep Creek Lake Discovery Center for a free concert at 7:00 pm. The Discovery Center is located at Deep Creek Lake State Park. A great event for all ages.
A great event and something different to do on the shores of Deep Creek Lake. Forty-five plus artists including several new to the festival, display and sell their work at the 13th Annual Art in the Park in one of Western Maryland’s most magnificent settings – Deep Creek Lake State Park, July 14-15th. Arrive by boat, car or foot – enter thru gate @ Deep Creek Lake State Park (service charge applies). Entertainment, food, naturalist programs featured. Located on the east side of the lake – where recreational choices abound.
“Art in the Park is an event for the entire family to enjoy,” said Caroline Blizzard, volunteer coordinator of the Western Garrett County State Park Volunteers, Inc. (WGCSPVI) “Beautiful art work, hands-on activities, delicious food will delight children and parents alike. We are proud to offer such programs that can bring family, fun and education together.”
Co- sponsored by the Western Garrett County State Park Volunteers and the Garrett County Arts Council, Art in the Park provides a great fundraising opportunity for both organizations while presenting a quality festival. All artwork on display is available for purchase. The variety of artistic and handmade pieces at the event include: jewelry, photography, wood turned items, native wildflowers, pottery, fused glass, original artwork, wood painted furniture, handmade wooden furniture, tatting, homemade chocolates, hand-woven baskets, wool rugs, handmade soaps, children’s books w/ the author and much more. There will be a silent auction on Saturday that includes art work donated by our vendors. The Arts Council will be displaying and selling tickets for their annual quilt fundraiser as well.
Food and a variety of hands-on activities including Tie Dyeing, live animal displays and more can be enjoyed throughout the day. In addition, visitors can also explore the interpretive/educational Discovery Center, open 10 am to 5 pm daily, during the summer.
Art in the Park will occur on Saturday, July 14th from 10 – 5 and on Sunday, July 15th from 10 – 4, rain or shine. Admission is the usual charge into Deep Creek Lake State Park, $3.00 per person for MD residents and $5.00 per person for out-of-State vehicles. Docking is available for those wishing to come by water. Plan to come for the day and enjoy Art in the Park, along w/the beach area and all that the park has to offer.

The world-class PSO returns to the shores of Deep Creek Lake at WISP Resort. Come and hear a magnificent program featuring violin superstar Chee-Yun in the breath taking beauty of Deep Creek Lake, Maryland.
An instant favorite end of summer event at Deep Creek Lake is the Deep Creek Lake Art & Wine Festival. Benefiting the American Red Cross the Art and Wine Festival will be held September 7-9, 2012 at the Garrett County Fairgrounds, McHenry MD. An opportunity to sample wines from over 200 Maryland and National wineries. This is paired with displays from artisans, live music, childrens activities and wine pairing dinners, food, silent auction and more.

The fair comes early this year, July 28 – August 4 2012. Held as always at the fairgrounds in McHenry with great views of Deep Creek Lake. This year the Garrett County Fair is celebrating its 56th year. One of summers biggest events at Deep Creek. There is something to do for everyone.
I try to visit several fairs over the summer and there really are few that can compare to the Garrett County Fair. Ours still has a focus on agriculture. It really showcases the efforts of the farmer. From the displays in the long barn to the fierce competition in the show ring it spotlights what most of Garrett County is about.
This years admission is $10.00 per person age 1 and up, includes gate admission, parking, entertainment, ALL events at the race track and rides in the carnival. There is another option sold as passes. Passes are good for 6 admissions ($5/day). They include: gate admission, parking, entertainment and ALL events at the race track. (Does NOT include rides in the carnival and CANNOT be transferred for rides in the carnival. Carnival tickets must be purchased at the gate on day of admission.) Weekly passes are now available at the following locations:Gregg’s Pharmacy, Oakland Southern States, Arrowhead Market, Foodland Fresh, Fratz Tru Value, Friendsville Pharmacy, Slopeside Market and Beachy’s Pharmacy
