Deep Creek Lake To Hold Annual Ramp Cook Off April 28, 2012

If you pay close attention in your outdoor travels around Deep Creek Lake you may just catch a whiff of ‘Ramps’.  Allium Tricocum the Ramp is a wild onion/leek with a very strong odor and even bigger garlic/onion flavor. Eat enough and you will definitely smell like them. And they sure are delicious. I love to try and keep a jar of hot and sour pickled ramps around but they never seem to last.

Deep Creek Lake Discovery Center will be holding the annual Ramp Cook Off. April 28, 2012. It is a great event and chance to see some clever and tasty alternative uses for the Ramp.

Deep Creek Lake State Park Egg Dying Easter Event

There is no doubt about it signs of spring are happening all around Deep Creek Lake. A flyer from the Deep Creek Lake Discovery Center reminded me that it is indeed the season.

MD State Lifeguard Competition Held At Deep Creek Lake State Park

Lifeguards and beach patrol from the shores of the Atlantic to the lakes of Garrett County converged on the beach at Deep Creek Lake State Park. The Deep Creek Lake event? To battle it out for honors of top lifeguard. If the elevation did not lend an advantage to the Deep Creek Lake team, cool temps and mountain showers combined with refreshing Deep Creek Lake water temperature did.

Other obligations prevented me from seeing who the ultimate winner was. Remember that Deep Creek Lake State Park has many things to do beside the great beach. Hiking trails, the Deep Creek Discovery Center, Camping, and Ranger Programs are just a few.
