A great event and something different to do on the shores of Deep Creek Lake. Forty-five plus artists including several new to the festival, display and sell their work at the 13th Annual Art in the Park in one of Western Maryland’s most magnificent settings – Deep Creek Lake State Park, July 14-15th. Arrive by boat, car or foot – enter thru gate @ Deep Creek Lake State Park (service charge applies). Entertainment, food, naturalist programs featured. Located on the east side of the lake – where recreational choices abound.
“Art in the Park is an event for the entire family to enjoy,” said Caroline Blizzard, volunteer coordinator of the Western Garrett County State Park Volunteers, Inc. If you pay close attention in your outdoor travels around Deep Creek Lake you may just catch a whiff of ‘Ramps’. Allium Tricocum the Ramp is a wild onion/leek with a very strong odor and even bigger garlic/onion flavor. Eat enough and you will definitely smell like them. And they sure are delicious. I love to try and keep a jar of hot and sour pickled ramps around but they never seem to last.
Deep Creek Lake Discovery Center will be holding the annual Ramp Cook Off. April 28, 2012. It is a great event and chance to see some clever and tasty alternative uses for the Ramp.
Just got the word of another option for what to do at Deep Creek Lake this Holiday season. The Western Garrett County State Park Volunteers will be having a Holiday Open House at the Discovery Center on December 10th, 2011. For more information on the Deep Creek Lake Discovery Center check out their Website.
If you are not familiar with the Bear project going on at Deep Creek Lake Please read up about it HERE. As the leaves are changing color and Autumn Glory will soon be upon us, it is time for the bears to find winter arrangements. The whole project is to benefit Deep Creek Lake State Park and their efforts to build a canopy walk. You can check out the details of that HERE.
After being separated for over four months for the first time ever all of the bears will be on display at one location. November 5, 2011 at The WISP Resort will host the “Bearly A Gala”. A night of good food, music, social networking and fun. Opportunities will be had to bid on your favorite bear to showcase as your own. Additionally for the first time the secret 21st bear will be unveiled.
Tickets are $35 dollars in advance and can be purchased on the Deep Creek Discovery Center Website. To view the PDF flyer about the Dee Creek Lake Bear Gala Click
The Deep Creek Lake Bear Gala is just one more great event at Deep Creek Lake. Check back often for other exciting things to do at Deep Creek and in Garrett County.
Lifeguards and beach patrol from the shores of the Atlantic to the lakes of Garrett County converged on the beach at Deep Creek Lake State Park. The Deep Creek Lake event? To battle it out for honors of top lifeguard. If the elevation did not lend an advantage to the Deep Creek Lake team, cool temps and mountain showers combined with refreshing Deep Creek Lake water temperature did.
Other obligations prevented me from seeing who the ultimate winner was. Remember that Deep Creek Lake State Park has many things to do beside the great beach. Hiking trails, the Deep Creek Discovery Center, Camping, and Ranger Programs are just a few.
I admit that Deep Creek Lake is a resource full of many interesting, exciting and unique things to do. Every now and then there is an event that really catches my eye. This is one of them. Tuesday August 9, 2011 Life guards from all over the state of Maryland will gather at the Deep Creek Lake State Park at 1:00 pm.
If you are unable to attend check back often to see the video.
