Like all lakes in MD, Deep Creek Lake is man made, actually filled in 1929. Unlike the rest it is the largest in the state. The 69 snaking miles of shoreline border about 3900 acres of lake at an elevation of 2466 feet above sea level. The lake average depth is 25 feet with a maximum of about 75 feet. Another fact that makes Deep Creek Lake unique is that it flows north and eventually empties into the Gulf of Mexico.
