Owners of Maryland’s only ski resort have asked a federal bankruptcy court for more time to find a buyer.
D.C. Development LLC, which owns Wisp Resort in Deep Creek Lake, near McHenry in western Maryland, asked the court in a filing submitted last week to delay its current August 10 deadline to provide a reorganization plan until October 9. They say that they’re in negotiations with two unidentified potential buyers while they concurrently craft a reorganization plan for the resort.
D.C. Development filed for bankruptcy protection last October after unsuccessfully attempting to renegotiate a $28.5 million loan with BB&T bank, of Winston-Salem, N.C., that was taken out to develop residential sites and an 18-hole golf course near the ski area before the real estate market bottomed out in 2008. Wisp celebrated its 56th birthday as a ski area last winter.
The Marcellus Shale issue is heating up again. Although this is probably not an event that most people think of as an entertainment or recreation venue at Deep Creek Lake, this event could have an impact on those very things.

Lately I have noticed in my travels people asking about the pager I wear that alerts me to fire and EMS activity in the area. It is essential to providing quick response in an area that relies almost exclusively on volunteer efforts. Many ask where they can get the same item. Personal scanners are available and pretty costly. Thanks to the world wide web and smart phones now it is pretty easy for the public to tune in at home or on the go.
Here is a link that will allow you to tune in on your personal computer.
If you would like a more portable option:
Please remember if you are experiencing an emergency or witness one to call 911. Also our area is served by volunteer members who not only respond to emergencies but must raise funds to do so. Please support a bingo, BBQ, or other fundraiser or inquire about how you could contribute time or money.
Below is a video of a training exercise.
