Country Fest and Auction is held annually on the fourth Saturday of August at the Garrett County Fairgrounds in McHenry, MD from 8:00 AM until 4:30 PM.
Admissions and Parking are FREE.

As summer begins to wind down the weather has proven to be unpredictable at best some days. Fortunately there is a full calendar of interesting things to do at the Deep Creek Lake Discovery Center. Located along the shores of Deep Creek Lake after visiting the Discovery Center take the opportunity to explore the park.
Owners of Maryland’s only ski resort have asked a federal bankruptcy court for more time to find a buyer.
D.C. Development LLC, which owns Wisp Resort in Deep Creek Lake, near McHenry in western Maryland, asked the court in a filing submitted last week to delay its current August 10 deadline to provide a reorganization plan until October 9. They say that they’re in negotiations with two unidentified potential buyers while they concurrently craft a reorganization plan for the resort.
D.C. Development filed for bankruptcy protection last October after unsuccessfully attempting to renegotiate a $28.5 million loan with BB&T bank, of Winston-Salem, N.C., that was taken out to develop residential sites and an 18-hole golf course near the ski area before the real estate market bottomed out in 2008. Wisp celebrated its 56th birthday as a ski area last winter.
The Marcellus Shale issue is heating up again. Although this is probably not an event that most people think of as an entertainment or recreation venue at Deep Creek Lake, this event could have an impact on those very things.

Lately I have noticed in my travels people asking about the pager I wear that alerts me to fire and EMS activity in the area. It is essential to providing quick response in an area that relies almost exclusively on volunteer efforts. Many ask where they can get the same item. Personal scanners are available and pretty 
costly. Thanks to the world wide web and smart phones now it is pretty easy for the public to tune in at home or on the go.

Rain or shine it is always nice to get in the car and take a cruise around Deep Creek Lake. Next weekend there will be even more to do and see. It is time again for the Artists Studio Tours in Garrett County. Not only something fun to do, but a great chance to meet the artists and see first hand how they do what they do.
If by chance it does not happen to be perfect weather one Monday, or it does. You may be looking for something different to do at Deep Creek Lake. Friends Store may be the thing.
Just down river from Deep Creek Lake is the Sang Run area. The Friends Store was once the meeting place for the local residents and fur trappers. Today the store is not open in a conventional way. However if you are looking for something else to do at Deep Creek Lake here is a chance to do a bit of a time warp.
